Salcombe Brewery

A new commercial building at Ledstone Cross near Kingsbridge

This was a tricky but interesting build, as it was previously owned by SWW and used as water storage for Kingsbridge and Ledstone and still had live pipes running through the site. We utilised the existing water storage bunker as part of the lower ground floor level and added an additional extension to the south. We started by breaking up the reinforced concrete lid and south side wall, adding strip foundations and a concrete ring beam to take the steel frame.

The steel frame walls and roof were clad with insulated sheets and further clad with sawn timber boarding. We also added an office and further storage using traditional cavity walls plus timber cladding to match the brewery.

A few kind words

Duncan’s project management of his team and subcontractors was exemplary, as was Danny’s, who took charge in Duncan’s absence.

The building team turned up on time, worked extremely hard, and to a very high standard; we were impressed with the thoroughness of their work. They were all extremely pleasant and helpful.

As with most building works, there were a few issues and changes, which were resolved promptly and professionally.

Following completion of the work, we composed a snagging list, which Duncan and his team dealt with straight away.

It was a pleasure having our brewery built by Lilburn & Elliott Construction.
